Parkit explains: Parking Malmö

Parkering Malmö's main mission is to build and manage parking facilities on vacant land in Malmö. They also manage the rental & monitoring of parking on behalf of external property owners.

What is Parkering Malmö?

Parkering Malmö owns ten parking facilities and manages over 35,000 parking spaces in Malmö, with a focus on safe parking, sustainable parking and digital parking. In addition to the parking garages operated under its own management, there are about 65 external customers that include most of the major real estate companies, Stadsfastigheter and Fastighets- och Gatukontoret in Malmö.

Service: Digital parking for customers and employees

Parkering Malmö is actively working to develop parking solutions with digital solutions that will make it easier for customers to park, and for employees in their everyday lives.

• Digital parking permits
  The physical parking permits have been replaced by registration in Parkering Malmö's digital customer portal. Here, customers can easily link a registration number to their rented parking space instead of putting a new parking permit in the box before each parking period.
  
• Digital ticket vending machines
  Ticket vending machines have been replaced by ticketless vending machines. Instead of receiving a paper ticket, customers enter the vehicle registration number into the vending machine. Receipts can be obtained via email at the time of purchase or afterwards via a receipt portal.
  
• Mobile payment
  In parking facilities without a toll system, Parkering Malmö customers can pay with their mobile phone.
  
• Digital parking enforcement
  With digital parking, parking enforcement is done by parking attendants using scanning. Using a handheld device, they scan the vehicle's license plate number against the system and receive information on whether the vehicle is validly parked.

Service: Sustainable parking

A major focus is on creating sustainable parking by, among other things, creating opportunities for sustainable transport, contributing to the city's biodiversity and producing its own electricity from solar cells on the roofs of the parking garages.

• Charging points for electric cars
  In Malmö Parking's parking garage, the focus is on 20% of the spaces being prepared for the installation of charging boxes. There are also charging facilities in existing facilities. There is a strong focus on gradually expanding the charging infrastructure.

• Solar panels on parking garage roofs
  One challenge is to ensure sufficient access to electricity for everyone who wants to charge their cars. Part of the solution involves a major effort to install solar panels in the parking garages. Another measure is to replace older lighting with modern and much more energy-efficient LED lighting, which in turn frees up capacity for charging electric cars.

• Plant walls
  Plant walls have been installed in several of the parking garages. These are expected to contribute to people's well-being and health, while promoting increased biodiversity by attracting small birds, bees and other pollinating insects. It is hoped that these green walls will also offer other health benefits, such as noise reduction and some purification of particles from exhaust fumes.

• Park & Ride
  By introducing the "Park & Ride" concept, Parkering Malmö aims to make it easier for those who wish to combine their car trip with train or other sustainable means of transportation. By placing parking garages in strategic locations, such as near the City Tunnel, and offering modern bicycle parking, opportunities are created for Malmö residents and visitors to make their trips more sustainable.

Service: Safe parking

To achieve safe and secure parking areas, much focus is placed on, among other things:

• Use of brighter colors and improved lighting 
• Creation of open environments without hidden areas 
• Installation of glass doors for improved visibility in and out 
• Renewal of areas outside parking garages 
• Use of surveillance cameras and megaphones 
• Increased frequency of patrols and cooperation with security companies

By additionally integrating parking attendants to answer questions and ensure smooth operations, along with the use of technology and established procedures for continuous security, Parkering Malmö strives to make parking a safe experience for all customers and visitors.
