Parking signs and road signs in parking areas
There is a plethora of parking signs and rules, and as a driver it is important that you know what these mean to avoid parking fines.
In this post, we'll look at the most common signs and additional signs you may encounter when entering a car park.
Common signs in a parking lot
Parking. Parking is permitted for 24 hours on weekdays except days before Sunday and public holidays, unless otherwise stated.
Additional board. In conjunction with a parking sign, you are also likely to come across a supplementary sign. The top row indicates the times you can park on weekdays, the middle row the times you can park on Saturdays and the day before public holidays, and the bottom row the times you can park on Sundays and public holidays.
Restraining order. Indicates that an area begins with the prohibitions or permissions indicated on the sign. Deviations from the instructions on the sign may be indicated by additional signs.
No parking and no stopping. Prohibition of both stopping and parking a vehicle.
No parking. Prohibition to park vehicles.
Loading place. At a loading site, it is not permitted to stop and park a vehicle for any purpose other than loading and unloading.
Extension. The plate with two-way arrows, set horizontally or vertically, indicates that the indication applies to both sides of the mark.
Extension of the ban. Additional sign indicating the extent of the prohibition to park or stop. The prohibition applies on both sides of the sign.
Additional boards
A valid parking permit is required. You can only park here if you have a valid parking permit.
Leased sites. Pitches intended for paying tenants. You can only park here if you have a valid parking permit.
Paid parking. You can only park here if you have purchased a parking ticket.
Residential parking. Spaces dedicated to residents of the area. A valid permit is often required.
Visitor parking. Spaces intended for visitors. Residents may not park in these spaces. Often this sign is combined with additional signs.
Parking for the disabled. Spaces for disabled people. A special permit is required to park in these spaces.
Parking with parking disc and time indication. The sign indicates that the parker may park freely for 2 hours on weekdays between 8-17 provided that a parking disc is used.
Date parking
Date parking. Prohibition of parking vehicles on even-date days on the side of the road with even address numbers and on odd-date days on the side of the road with odd address numbers.
Prohibition of parking on odd dates. At this sign you are not allowed to park on odd date.
Prohibition of parking on even dates. At this sign you are not allowed to park on even dates.
